In our commitment to spreading knowledge of the Arabic language, Qortoba Institute for Arabic Studies (QIAS) has designed an online Arabic language program to accommodate students who would like to study from the comfort of their own home and/or are not able to travel abroad.

Online Course Fees:

Private lessons: 4.5 Euros per hour

2-to-1 lessons: 3 Euros per hour

3-to-1 lessons: 2 Euros per hour

Note: special courses do have special prices.

Special Rate: Our online teachers normally have between 2 to 4 years of experience teaching Arabic as a foreign language however, if you wish to study with a teacher who has more experience, you have the option of being taught by one of the directors of our teaching staff for 6 Euros per hour. These teachers have:

• 12 years of experience teaching Arabic as a foreign language
• TOEFL from American University of Cairo
• Trained more than 300 new teacher

General Information:

Online classes are offered via MSN Messenger (http://get.live.com/messenger) or Skype (www.skype.com/download/).

Payment for classes can be made via Western Union, direct transfer to Qortoba's bank account or via Moneybookers (please see our "Payment" page for more information).

Female students are taught by a female teacher.

Students are given a placement test to assess their proficiency level prior to the start of class.

Time of class is negotiable according to teacher and student schedule.

Students can either download books or request QIAS to ship them.

Online classes are also available for those students who would like to resume classes from their home countries after having studied on-site at QIAS in Egypt.

Online Tajweed/Tahfeedhul-Qur'aan Program with Ijaazah

QIAS is now offering 2 different online programs for students interested in memorizing the Qur'aan.

1. Recitation via Repetition: This program consists of students reciting the Qur'aan via repitition of their instructor only. Recitiation/pronunciation will be corrected while the student is reciting, however, detailed tajweed rules as well as rules regarding makhaarij of huroof are not taught in this program. Students who enroll in this program are not required to have detailed knowledge of the Arabic language as they will simply be repeating after their instructor.
   
2. Recitation via Repetition and Detailed Tajweed Lessons: This program contains what is listed above alongside learning tajweed rules in detail. Students who enroll in this program are required to have an intermediate understanding of the Arabic language as Tajweed lessons will be taught in Arabic.

Qortoba's Qur'aan instructors have ijaazah in Hafs. Prices for the online Qur'aan program are the same as prices for general online classes Same registration, absentee and payment policies apply (See below).

 

Important Policy Information

(Please read before proceeding with your registration)

• Online students must register for a minimum of 30 hours of class time
• Online students must study a minimum of 4 hours per week (16 hours per month).
• Online students are required to own a printer and scanner for proper completion of assignments and exams.
• Absentee Policy: Online students must notify their teacher (via email) if they will not be able to attend their lesson at least 24 hours prior to scheduled class time.

QIAS requires all students interested in online classes to sign up for a free, 1-hour trial session prior to registration. This trial session will allow you to get a glimpse at our online program and assess if it is the right fit for you. During your trial session you may also ask any questions you may have regarding the online program.

I am a 59 year old man from UK and have been trying to learn Arabic for the last four five years but have not succeeded in the past. I believe I have a very good chance Insha Allah to succeed with QIAS because:

1.      One spends four hours a week studying with the teacher.

2.      The course is taught in Arabic unlike class room lesson in UK which is in English. It helps to learn new vocabulary quickly.

3.      Spending two hours on each lesson also aids in remembering vocabulary instantly

4.      I found the quality of teaching, the material given addition to the text book very effective.

I was and am very keen to learn the Arabic language, the language of the Qur’an; to be able to understand it in its original form and speak and write it at the same time.  Initially, I didn’t understand a word of Arabic even though I was able to read it. But Alhamdulillah! QIAS has provided us with a great opportunity to study Arabic online. It has been five weeks now since I started and I can now write and understand and speak basic Arabic. When I first signed up for classes with QIAS over Skype, I was allowed try out one free class to see if online classes would be suitable for me.  I appreciated this initial trial because it gave me the confidence to commit to taking more classes over Skype.  I found my teachers to be very knowledgeable and skilled in teaching language, Masha'Allah.   They consistently began class on time, and they were very patient with my terrible reading and speaking skills, Alhamdulillah.  As a female, I also appreciated being able to learned from very skilled female teachers one-on-one because I found that it helped me overcome my shyness and allowed me to improve in the reading and speaking skills, Alhamdulillah.  Overall, I have had a wonderful experience with QIAS.  The institute has been organized, and the teachers have been excellent, Masha'Allah.

The institute is very organised and the teachers are very punctual, during the first month I gained a lot from my lessons. The lessons are in three parts, speaking, question and answer and going through the text book al kitab al asasi, during the first month I would speak in Arabic about my family, weekend and friends in detail as much as possible, I would also speak about pictures that were on the board put up by my teacher, describing as much as I could information from the pictures.

I also went through the text book lessons and answered question from there, this improved my reading and writing skills, apart from this my teacher would bring out opposites of words and singulars from plurals and tell me to make sentences using words from the text, she would make me use a word in as many different ways as possible.

By now I have almost completed my first 30 hours at the Institute through the online learning. I absolutely enjoyed it.. I was used to meeting my teacher on Skype for 1 hour 3 times per week. I took the tajweed course as the absolute beginner, and I now have knowledge about the basic rules, reading, reciting the Qur'aan.. I am able to differentiate very well between the most important rules.. apply my knowledge in practice.. and improve.. I have enjoyed the teaching and revision methods. At Qortoba Institute the student is taught how to speak correctly and gets practice in that. I love their teaching method. It has helped me to remember what I have learned in a quick and easy manner.
